Dr. Casey Represents BITA and ILCF at Global Peace Conference
At the recent Global Peace Leadership Conference in Belfast (hosted by Queens University), Dr. Michael Casey, Fellow of the Irish State, represented the British and Irish Trading Alliance (BITA) and the Irish Lebanese Cultural Foundation (ILCF).
During a lecture/discussion Dr. Casey reminded the delegates present – among them, James P. Flynn (International President, Global Peace Foundation, Washington DC), Lord Robin Eames OM (former Anglican Archbishop of Armagh), and H.E., Dr. Amani Abeid Karume (former President of Zanzibar) – of the basics: “The notion of peace is when society is able to resolve its conflicts without violence and can work together to improve the quality of their lives. It is imperative, in a functioning twenty first century democracy, that citizens are in a position to participate in shaping political decisions and the elected government is accountable to the people. Since the signing of the Good Friday Agreement, this has,” he said, ”been the only way forward for the people of Ireland – North and South. In terms of Brexit we have no option but to continue the process and rigorously so.” Concerning the Global Peace Foundation Ireland, which is based in Limerick, Dr. Casey praised the pioneering work and spirit of Mr. Arnold Kashembe (Country Director).
